On the decline of telephone calls

I really dislike telephones, both for the reasons described in this piece by Clive Thompson and for personal reasons involving an ex, so I am happy to see calls declining as a means of communication. Phones are all about interruptions and about weird social conventions around ending calls.

About the only folks who routinely use them for work in my world are people in government, who value one of the attributes of phone calls which I dislike, which is that they leave no record of what was discussed.
